Looks like Thor is getting a makeover...
From www.wizarduniverse.com http://wizarduniverse.com/_images_/002638/thorREB-1.jpg http://wizarduniverse.com/_images_/002638/thorReb2.jpg THOR REBORN It’s been more than two years since Asgard fell and Thor and all his people were believed destroyed during Ragnarok. And while we’ve seen his mad clone in Civil War, no one has seen the Thunder God himself. Until now. You’ll still have to wait well into 2007 for writer J. Michael Straczynski and artist Olivier Coipel’s relaunch, but the pieces of the puzzle are already coming together—starting with Thor’s new look, seen here for the first time anywhere. “Marvel asked me to redesign the character,” says Coipel. “JMS was [thinking] ‘Lord of the Rings’-style, stuff like that. So I did a few sketches that were going a bit too far away from the ‘Marvel Thor’ and too much into heroic fantasy. I had to go back to the classic black costume with the round plates—one of the most recognizable symbols of the character—and mix it with the knight look.” The road to Thor’s return began when Mjolnir, the Norse god’s mystical hammer, crashed to Earth in Fantastic Four #536. The hammer remained unmoved until a mysterious figure with the initials D.B. touched it in FF #538, flying away following a flash of lightning. “I’m not going to give anything away just yet, but the events in FF will play a role here,” says series editor Warren Simons. “You’ll know all about ‘D.B.’ come issue #1.” Will Thor’s fellow gods get a similar makeover at Coipel’s hands? “Well, if we see the rest of the cast, they’ll get the same treatment,” hints the artist. “Maybe not [necessarily] by simplifying the design, but I’ll tweak them.” “Thor’s Asgardian cast will play an important role in the series,” adds Simons. “JMS shows in the first few issues that Thor is Asgard, and Asgard is Thor.” Many questions about the Odinson remain, but Simons promises all will be revealed. “We’re going to see just what he’s been going through, and the extraordinary road that lies ahead for him. Not only will the consequences of Ragnarok reverberate throughout the first arc, but of central focus to the book is importance of the Norse gods’ relationship to each other, and the bond they have with humanity.” |

i still prefer the classic thor...
... Marvel constantly revises thor's look... but they always return to the classic look... :) I think this look will be short lived... probably just long enough to sell action figures :) |

not bad looking. My only complaint is the helmet is so close to the eyes.... it looks cool but not very practical in battle

I rather like the look. I am just curious though. How many times has the costume of Thor (616 Universe) been revamped? I can only recall:
1) Classic Version 2) Chainmail Version (during the Walt Simonson run - and a personal favorite of mine) 3) Thunderstrike? (But that wasn't really Thor...) 4) Heroes Reborn Any other revamp that I missed out on? |

Koji, you missed the following costume changes:
90's version (from DC vs. Marvel) World Engine version (designed by Mike Deodato) Thor, Lord of Asgard (his costume after Odin died) |

Yikes. That's a lot of costume revamps, after all. I guess editors/writers/artists felt the need to revamp Thor's look. BUt the classic look is always the best. As for the helmet, I guess when you're a barbarian/berserker type you do need some sturdy head gear.
I am more concerned with the storylines since JMS is more known for Sci-Fi. I am wondering how he will add to Marvel's version of Norse myhtology. |

Im going to give this costume a chance. Remember Iron spidey when it first came out? Its the same thing here and I really think it will depend on the artist on how he will give justice to Thor's new costume. Its about time they bring back the Norse God, im beginning to have withrawal symptoms before civil war. Hope this makes a good read. :spiderman:

looks promising. they're really going all-out Norse on this one, especially with Thor's helm. I agree with Toyden. I'd give my comments when I see it on actual print. (but i wasn't too hot with Iron Spidey though. Seemed a little too Ronald McDonald for me. Ronald McDonald with extra appendages ;) )
