Yup! The strange thing when I was backtracking MOTU a couple of months back, the prices of the exclusives don't seem to go down! The keep going up! I really sympathize with JLU collectors! I mean i saw the Grundy at greenhills selling for SOO MUCH!

Well, just spoke with my cousin over in the USA, and the DCSH in the secondary market are going for a high price as well! So might just skip the line altogether! haha! who knows, maybe come next SDCC, they will come out with another exclusive figures that's gonna cost an arm and a leg! haha!

Release Date: September 2006/January 2007 MATTEL DCSH

Mattel certainly knows what they’re doing with this line. First, they’re choosing some of the coolest-looking, most toyetic characters they can from within the Superman and Batman universes. Some we’ve seen as toys before, but the first-ever figures of classic Parasite and Mongul I are welcome additions.

Second, they’re doing variants that make sense—the Supergirl in September’s Wave 4 (along with Brainiac 13, Lex Luthor and Darkseid) reflects her updated costume, and January’s Wave 1 of 2007 features a Battle-Damaged Superman to team up with Steel against Mongul and Parasite (below). Finally, Mattel has the Four Horsemen sculpting it all, resulting in some of the ass-kickingest toys to come out of Mattel since the Masters of the Universe.

Boy Wonder (Mattel brand manager for JLU and DCSH) recently posted his answers to some questions sent in by AFI members. I'm pasting them below.

QUOTE ("Boy Wonder")
Hi Everyone,

It's been a while, but I wanted to catch up with you.  We are half way through Toy Fair, and the lines have been getting good feedback.

Here are some of the answers to your questions:
QUOTE
Will Mattel be in Chicago next year?

I am planning to be there. We are nailing down our exclusive figure strategy in the next few weeks, so once we have resolution, I will tell you what we are planning.

QUOTE
Hey, thanks for taking time to update us Boy Wonder! And what do you mean by "cut production quantities by 50% next year"? You mean you only want to put out half the number of figures that you are currently putting out per wave? If that is the case, even out the case ratios please! Doesn't have to be 2-2-2-2 like the first wave, but 3-2-2-1 sounds reasonable. 4-2-1-1 is terrble by the way. This will make most of us resort to online shopping and force us to pretty much buy all the wave online. Then retailers might see that the line isn't selling well at retail, and now you know why. Just a thought. Not sure how accurate I am.

We will produce enough to meet demands. Our goal is not to over produce, as was the case with Scarecrow.

Secondly, we are moving to in 6 in a case pack next year.

QUOTE
"We are looking to do a Cyborg Superman for next spring"

YES!!!
The 2 UP scale will be exclusive at TRU around Easter.
We do not have any plans to launch the 6" scale in the spring.

QUOTE
I beseech you guys to keep fighting for more DC heroes to pop up in the line over the coming years

We continue to try, and I also hope we will see that day. I know a lot of you want to contact DC on our behalf, and I am flattered that you like our figures. Our team works very hard making figures that we can be proud of.

QUOTE
So, do we have any idea when the blue costume variant of Supergirl with the new hair sculpt (as opposed to the re-painted standard Supergirl in wave 4) will be released and/or how it will be released (eg. in a two pack with Superman)?

She may be at Mass retail by mid November (in very limited quantities). However, you will be able to find her in the new packaging exclusively at WMT in January.

QUOTE
Um, why aren't we getting Catwoman? If this is some attempt by Mattel to preach the "girls don't sell" mantra, then I won't be collecting this line anymore.

Just because Catwoman is not coming in 2006, doesn't mean she will not make it in 2007.

QUOTE
Who knows? That Catwoman is high on my list and they have been very good with characters selection so far (from what they have..) so if she is bumped, it's probably for something else even better. BW said he was spending resources on getting more characters so maybe we've got some nice stuff lined up. I hope so.

Someone was listening.

QUOTE
We know that there are 2 Batgirls coming - the classic (blue/grey) and the modern (black). Mattel first stated that one would be the regular release in the next Batman wave and the alternate would be the chase figure for that wave. Since then, we have seen the classic show up in the Target 2-pack, but we still don't know what's going to happen with the individual release. It would make sense for that to go to the modern Batgirl, but that has not been confirmed.

The second one should be in stores just after Easter.

QUOTE
Thanks guys, well I won't freak out about not having a target here and trying to find the 2 pack!!

I am working to get target.com to sell this item as well. Check for it in a month.

QUOTE
BUT what about the possibility of doing larger scale roto figures. I can't remember where, but I heard about there possibly being large scale Batman and Superman figures. Are these a go?

Toys R Us

QUOTE
Like the idea of 6" movie versions.

Interesting idea.

QUOTE
Catwoman could likely be next year's DCSH convention exclusive? I really hope not, but I wouldn't be suprised

I don't want to put her there. I think it would be interesting to do something for the upcoming movie. We are also thinking of a really cool execution of Manbat. What would you guys like to see?

QUOTE
Boy Wonder, any chance you can let us know the case ratios for the 2packs? I've heard reports of 4 Bizarros, 1 Clark, and 1 Batgirl. But I've been to stores with 3 Clarks and 3 Bizarros on the shelf. And I'm sure all of us have seen sets of all Bizarros. And if anyone else knows, feel free to chime in!

Not exactly. The reason you are seeing so many SM/Bizzaros is because we launched with him. However, the next mix contains BM/BG and SM/CK.

QUOTE
will the Barbara Gordon Batgirl be released as a single?

No plans to do that for 2007.

There are a lot of questions and requests for DCU. I am sorry to say that there are not any plans to venture beyond the Batman and Superman worlds for the 6" line in 2007.

lance- 11-14-2006
These are really good feedbacks and responses from Boy Wonder. Truly, something good to look forward to...

this really is too bad.

I often find myself wondering why DC releases and RE-releaseshe same old characters in different lines. I, for one, would like to have seen all the 4th world characters as part of the DCSH toyline.

four horse man's sculpt work in the DCSH is so awesome that I hoped that the Newgods would be part of their line up sometime down the road.

I wonder why they wont venture beyond Supes' and Bats' Mythos? playing it safe, marketing wise?

Buffy- 11-14-2006
I think Mattel only got the license for Batman and Superman. Yup, if they did the rest of the 4th world characters, it's definitely gonna rock! I can image how the 4 horsemen might redesign Barda's armor, or how evil and creepy looking Desaad would look.

rediahs- 11-14-2006
Dc won't give mattel the rights of the other characters or their own action figures will be jeopardize smile.gif and also Mattel's rights to do Batman and Superman is only for Movies and Cartoons renditions not Artist Specific ie. Alex Ross.

carthut- 11-15-2006
finally got the DCSH Batman and Batgirl Target exclusive

Nice hauls Pat!

hmmm, I wonder why the Four Horsemen still insists in sculpting Batman's Utility belt as that humungous?

Babs looks Great BTW.

rediahs- 11-15-2006
wow congrats pat... hoping to get mine as well. smile.gif

vader- 11-15-2006
Pat: congrats of finally getting Babs. afhub/rockon.gif

Grundy: I suppose the belt has to be huge to make it more plausible for Batman to be carrying all those gizmos all over town. wink.gif

Grundy- 11-15-2006
yeah, the belt probably weighs a ton. afhub/rubchin.gif

afhub/offtopic.gif are the batarangs foldable? I always wondered how any (let alone a whole bunch) of them would fit his belt.

Clark Ken- 11-16-2006
afhub/shocked.gif ...finally, u got Barbs !!! congratz Pat wink.gif

afhub/offtopic.gif

Jujuman- 11-16-2006
